Mostra Coffee is a San Diego, California based artisan micro-roasting company that sources, roasts, brews, and serves premium, fair-trade specialty coffee. Mostra Coffee was established in the North County (Rancho Bernardo) area of San Diego after seeing the lack of specialty coffee outside of the large corporate chains. On January, 20th, Mostra officially opened their Café and Retail Shop in Carmel Mountain Ranch. Mostra HQ, which is located about 400 yards from their new store is still where all the coffee roasting and production magic happens.
The beautiful ‘English Industrial’ inspired design of the Café showcases the only Mavam espresso machine in San Diego and it’s built into a lower bar-top to give the most unique, engaging and visually immersive customer experience of the brewing process. The eclectic menu offers specialty coffee of the most prestigious coffee beans from around the world brewed by the Mavam, by ‘pour-over’ or cold brewed. Mostra’s legendary Crème Brulee Latte, Bibingka Creme Brulee Latte and Campfire Latte are some of the specialty espresso favorites also featured on the menu along with specialty loose-leaf hot tea and Mostra’s signature series of Cold Brews like the ‘Choco-Nana’ and ‘One Bra-zillion Coconuts.’ Freshly roasted bags of coffee beans and bottles of the signature Cold Brews are available for purchase every day.
Mostra Coffee just celebrated its 4 year anniversary and due to its incredible growth of Mostra-loving and coffee-enthused patrons, Mostra outgrew their operation of just a couple days a week at their roasting warehouse in Carmel Mountain to now serving every day at the new Café and Retail Store located at 12045 Carmel Mountain Rd. #302 in the Home Depot Shopping center between See’s Candies and Grub Burger Bar; Monday – Saturday 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. Breakfast and pastries will be offered daily by Nutmeg Bakery and Nina Marie Designs as well as lunch selections by Super Natural Sandwiches.
Mostra Coffee champions in true quality, sustainability and innovation from the origin of their coffee to the roasting and brewing methods they use and because of this manifesto, Mostra has over 200 collaborations with craft breweries throughout San Diego and nationwide like Saint Archer, Abnormal Beer Company and the iconic Stone Brewery with their collaboration of the famous Xocoveza Mocha Stout – a nationally distributed beer for the past 3 years.
Mostra Coffee’s owners really wanted to bring their passion of coffee to serve and connect with the community they grew up in and love. “Mostra Coffee was made for our community, by our community. A coffee haven of sorts that welcomes not only coffee lovers of different tastes, but also beer, bourbon and food connoisseurs alike,” said Mostra’s Head Roaster/Co-owner, Mike Arquines. The majority of the owners of Mostra Coffee are locals who grew up in the Poway Unified School District and graduated from Rancho Bernardo High School. Co-founder Jelynn Malone said, "There aren't a ton of specialty coffee roasters in this neighborhood, let alone specialty coffee shops, so we are excited for everyone to come by for some freshly roasted specialty grade coffee! It is exciting and surreal to have a business in the neighborhood we grew up in!”
Mostra is the Italian word for show, exhibition or performance and is what inspires Mostra Coffee to present innovative and unique brewing experiences and flavors to their customers.
Mostra Coffee was founded by Beverly Magtanong, Jelynn Sophia Malone, Mike Arquines, Sam Magtanong, and RJ Ocubillo in 2013.
